Monitor disease thresholds and complete curative or preventative fungicide applications

  • Use an Integrated Pest Management monitoring system, our local disease thresholds are monitored and change is made when action is required

    • Appropriate application rate is determined based on the severity of the disease outbreak

    • Boom sprayer or backpack sprayer is properly calibrated and ready for use

    • Spray is loaded into the tank and correctly mixed using correct PPE during all aspects of the application

    • Chemical fungicide mixture is applied on affected areas requiring treatment

    • Holding tanks are cleaned and stored properly for next treatment

    • Fungicide records are completed once application is completed and weather conditions are monitored throughout the application period.

Operate an aging irrigation system ensuring the efficient usage of water.

  • Operate an old irrigation system without a central control system, effectively making all decisions on how much water to put down and where per night.

    • Take daily morning moisture readings to determine root zone moisture levels throughout the golf course areas of play

    • Determine when to water and how much is required to replace evapotranspiration lost throughout the day

    • Adjust part circle heads to ensure efficient coverage where it is needed the most.

    • Set all controllers on a daily basis throughout the season to ensure ideal plant health.

  • Troubleshoot and locate potential pipe breaks and getting them fixed efficiently.

    • Excavate to expose broken pipe, while removed dirt is loaded onto a tarp or plywood sheet to ensure cleanliness throughout the fix’s duration.

    • Old break location is cut out with a saw, and existing pipe is prepared for the new parts

    • New parts are primed, glued, and pieced together. Depending on the size of pipe and location of fix, the pipe is left to cure for an amount of time.

    • Hole is backfilled and sod is replaced. Landscaping is returned to where it was before the irrigation break.

  • Order and install new sprinkler heads to replace old ones as they become obsolete and inefficient.

    • Order sprinkler heads and parts in March to ensure their arrival by the start or mid point of April and ready for the season.

    • Identify problems upon startup and make and major repairs where necessary.

    • Adjust the system to achieve the highest efficiency of water use possible by replacing and adjusting all sprinkler heads to ensure the effective use of irrigation.

Care of all turf areas using ride on mowers, string trimmers, and walk behind mowers focusing on playability of the golf course.

  • Use a triplex mower, greens and tee boxes are cut with design and efficiency in mind.

    • Cut grass with specialized triplex mowers, utilizing the striping rollers to their full capacity, alternating directions daily, as well as clean up pass directions.

  • Change the course set up daily to while working to maintain effective hole location movement, as well as tee box wear patterns.

    • Pace of play is also monitored and changes are made where required to ensure pace of play is kept at a reasonable level, and golf course is not playing at too high of a difficulty based on clientele.

  • Operate a seven reel fairway mower, along with a striping rough mower, when required these machines are operated efficiently through the property.

Manage equipment and implements, completing regular maintenance as required by the owners manual.

  • Ensuring reels are sent in to be sharpened and are received back in a timely manner.

  • Sharpened reels, when arrived back to the golf course have their height of cut adjusted and reel to bedknife contact is returned to ensure a healthy cut on the plant.

  • Once adjusted, reels are tested and ready for the next day’s cut.

  • Switching workman boxes and chassis depending on what implement is needed and when.

  • Completing greasing of all grease nipples, along with checking the engine oil, and hydraulic oil levels on a regular basis.

  • When service is required, the golf course mechanic is notified right away.

Implement cultural practices when turfgrass conditions display signs of required help

  • Report daily as required, looking at cutting yield, coloration, and turf vigor to determine when a fertilizer application is necessary. Monitoring fertility and plant health are critical to ensuring a consistent playing surface and growing conditions throughout the season.

    • In association with the fertilizer schedule, conditions will be monitored and if an additional or sooner application is required, it is scheduled and completed.

    • Calibrate the boom sprayer is completed, along with the effective nozzle selection

    • Spray is loaded into the tank and correctly mixed using correct PPE during all aspects of the application

    • Fertilizer is applied to all areas of the golf course that require extra fertility help.

    • Boom sprayer holding tank is cleaned and stored properly for next treatment

    • Complete fertilizer records once application is completed and weather conditions are monitored throughout the application period.

    • Take soil samples once per year and are sent to a analysis company, the fertility results are analysed and adjustments are made to the fertility program.

  • Take regular soil samples using a soil probe to ensure thatch levels are within set parameters.

    • Thatch layer is monitored once or twice a week by collecting soil samples.

    • When thatch becomes a problem, verticutting, topdressing, or (in extreme cases) aeration is scheduled during a time staffing numbers allow.

Demonstrate a commanding level of expertise when dealing with any driving range procedure or technique.

  • Collect and clean of range golf balls throughout the shift
